Guns N’Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’Mine’ Tops Rock Charts After ‘Thor’ Trailer

Guns N’ Roses famous track ‘Sweet Child O Mine’ reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart.

It also re-entered the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart at number 9.

The 1987 hit achieved that feat after appearing in the film’s upcoming trailer, Thor: Love and Thunder.

‘Sweet Child O Mine’

According to Billboard, ‘Sweet Child O Mine’ also sold 1,600 downloads during the April 15-21 tracking week. It also gained 4.7 million streams in the US, an increase of 8% in the same week.

It comes after the track reached one billion streams on Spotify last August. The track also became the billionth song to achieve the feat on Spotify.

Over the years, Guns N’ Roses member Slash has had a say in the song.

Talk to Metro ten years ago, Slash said the track was the highest-grossing song he had ever composed.

“It’s the most covered [song I have ever written]. There are very good instrumental versions for piano or violin, but I was horrified by some muzak versions”, he said.

“I sat in a doctor’s office thinking, ‘This sounds familiar,’ and then I realized that was someone’s interpretation of what I had written. It can be a scary feeling.”

However, he said in a later interview that he didn’t like it so much Sweet Child O Mine.

“GUNS N’ ROSES has always been a real hardcore hard rock band, AC/DC type, with a lot of attitude. If we did any kind of ballads, it was bluesy. It was an uptempo ballad,” he said.

“It’s one of the g****t things you can write. But at the same time it’s a great song – I don’t hit it – but at the time it just didn’t fit with the rest of our, sot of, schtick. And, of course, that would be the biggest hit we’ve ever had.”

More recently, Slash hinted that new music was on the horizon for Guns N’Roses.
