Demi Lovato’s ‘Skin of My Teeth’: New Rock Music Video Highlights Near-Death Experience

After having “a funeral” for her career in pop music”, Demi Lovato released “Skin Of My Teeth” on June 9, which belongs to the rock genre. Demi Lovato was completely gritty and brutally honest, which are marks of makes rock music. Lovato was particularly realistic about her near-death experience.

After hinting at a return to their pop-punk and rock roots, Demi has released a new song from their upcoming album, “HOLY FVCK.”

The song’s lyrics take fans back to 2018, the year Demi Lovato was simply beside herself and battling her addiction.

“I’m alive by the skin of my teeth,” they sing in the chorus. “I survived but it became harder to breathe.” At one point, they also said she felt lucky to be alive after the heartbreak.

“I can’t believe I’m not dead” they sing.

Demi first declared her transition from pop to rock in an Instagram post on January 20. They captioned the photo of her sitting with musical executives from Island Records and their manager Scooter Braun, “A funeral for my pop music.”

They also shared an Instagram Story of the executives telling Demi that they can “release whatever music you want, whenever you want. Break the rules.”

Demi shared two snippets of a rock song, in which they sang over heavy guitar riffs. “Yeah, you push me over the edge/ Prod me, lie to me, ungodly things have been sent/ Here’s your tickets to the freak show baby, sci-fi, watch the freak go crazy.”

“I would say a new era has begun. Demi told Rolling Stone of the funeral she gave to their pop career and its new direction, “I’m constantly evolving and changing.”

They shared that they preferred to leave the rest of their music in the past. And then, clean slate, they want to start from scratch in this new period for their next album.

When announcing “HOLY FVCK,” they said, “The process of creating this album has been the most satisfying to date, and I’m grateful to my fans and partners for taking this journey with me. I’ve never been more confident in myself and my music, and this album speaks for itself. Thank you to my Lovatics who have been with me since the beginning, as well as to those who have just joined us. This is your disk.
